I’ve had a couple of appearances with my buddy Colin Conway in support of the anthology we both appear in called The EX Factor.
It has been a blast. Not only is Colin good with the customers and in promoting the book, but when there aren’t any customers, we get to shoot the breeze. Our long, frequently interrupted conversation traversed topics such as writing, movies, women and police work. Good natured insults usually punctuate the banter. I always laugh my ass of when I’m around Colin.
I’m lucky enough to have read his yet-to-be published novels featuring ex-cop Jack Collins. They’ll be a big hit, trust me. Mark this date as an official prediction.
Anyway, here’s a pic of one of the stops we made at a local Hastings (Hastings and the independent bookstores have been absolutely awesome to me–please give them your business!).

Colin and I will be at the Shadle Hastings in Spokane on Saturday, October 28th from 1 PM to 4 PM. Please swing in and get your copy of The EX Factor. And for newcomers to the game, the proper response to “Do you like crime fiction?” is not a prideful, "I don’t read."

The cover design for Map of Murder is now up at Red Coyote Press Here’s what it looks like:

Cool, huh? My story, In the Shadow of El Paso appears in this anthology, which should be out pretty soon!

I had the time wrong on this Saturday’s time appearance. Here is the right time:
Oct 21, 2006 3 PM - 7 PM
Hastings Bookstore, Coeur d'Alene, Idaho
If you’re around, come on by and meet Colin Conway and I and pick up your copy of The EX Factor. Under a Raging Moon, By the Chimney with Care and Seven By Seven will all be available, too.

I have signed a contract with Koboca Publishing for Heroes Often Fail, the next book in the River City series.
While the contract is for a single book, the publisher has stated unequivocally that she wants to publish the entire River City series.
The book is slated for a September 2007 release.
If anyone is wondering, “Why a different publisher? I thought Wolfmont published Under A Raging Moon,” the answer is simple. You’re right. Wolfmont did publish (and will continue to publish for the time being) Moon.
Why a different publisher? Quite simply, Wolfmont is moving in a different direction with the books that they intend to publish and River City material did not fit into that theme. When that became apparent, both the publisher and I discussed it. This resulted in a mutual decision to part ways on this project.
I’m grateful to Wolfmont Publishing for publishing Moon. And I look forward to seeing the series continue under the Koboca banner.
What does this mean to you, the reader? Not a whole lot, I’m sure. The important point for the reader is this: Heroes will be out in September 2007.

Crimson Highway has gone live with its special preview issue. This issue contains my story, “In Your Warm and Darkened Grave.”
This is not a River City story, but rather a vampire story.
You can check out the issue HERE.

My short story, “Labor in Vain,” was accepted by Long Story Short and will be featured in their December issue.
This story is not a River City story and is a bit of a departure for me.

Within the last couple of weeks, I have made three appearances at bookstores.
I visited the Hastings in Moses Lake, Washington.
I appeared at Whodunit? Books in Olympia, Washington.
I made my first visit to Seattle Mystery Bookshop in Seattle (duh), Washington.
Hastings has been wonderful to me at every branch and Moses Lake was no exception. For such a large corporation, the book managers take great interest in promoting local writers.
Independent mystery bookstores like Whodunit? Books and the Seattle Mystery Bookshop are absolutely awesome. The staff at both of these locations treated me very well and I was thrilled to be there. Both bookstores bought extra copies of the book to sell and in both instances, I left with a strong desire to come again!
My thanks to all three stores for hosting me!
