K.L. Cook and Frank Zafiro Reading

Description:

In Love Songs for the Quarantined, K.L. Cook’s characters are entrapped by fate and flaws: whooping cough forces a family into isolation and painful reflection; Clyde Barrow—of Bonnie and Clyde fame—arrives on a 13-year-old boy’s doorstep; and a man struggles with his masculine identity in a time of financial uncertainty.

In Frank Zafiro’s And Every Man Has to Die, the men and women of the River City Police Department struggle against the organized crime that poisons the community, but find that good does not always prevail. Each of these works faces head

on the question of who, or what determines our destiny.

This sounds like it’ll be pretty straightforward — a reading, about 30 minutes each. I don’t know K.L. Cook, but I’m looking forward to the invitation. Anyone who writes about Clyde Barrow has to have some crime fiction blood pumping through the veins, eh?

Fiction With Teeth Panel

Description:

Russian crime syndicates. Vampires. Time travel. From detective fiction to paranormal romance, every genre comes with its own set of rules and characters, so how do writers  keep their readers chomping at the bit? Authors Frank Zafiro, Rebecca Zanetti, and Richard Miller will discuss the ways their stories both uphold and subvert genre conventions to create fiction as titillating as it is satisfying. Asa Maria Bradley, non-fiction and romance writer, will moderate.
This may be the most fun of all three events. I’ve not met Richard, though we’ve exchanged emails, and I look forward to meeting Rebecca. And I think the theme of this panel should keep things hopping along. And the ever-insightful Asa Bradley is sure to ask some compelling questions.
In addition to these events that I am involved in, there are a slew of other literary events throughout the weekend. Don’t miss out, and see ya there!
