I thought I’d start this new series with absolutely perfect relevance:  Top 5 Crime Writers you should check out.

This list is in no specific order.

1. Lawrence Block. The grand master. I’m partial to Scudder, but if you like humor, his Burglar series is for you. Don’t let the Whoopi Goldberg adaptation deter you.

2. Donald Westlake. He wrote under a ton of psuedonyms, including Richard Stark, so anything you want in the crime genre, he’s probably got it. I much prefer the Parker series, but your mileage may vary.

3. Elmore Leonard. Lean. The man writes lean. So there you have it. Yes, I know, there’s no Michael Connelly (love him) or James Ellroy (not really a huge fan) or even Don Winslow (that cut was a tough one, but if I look at the list, he compares to Elmore Leonard, and how can I not have the big E?). All worthy, all worthy.
