This feature will take the form of mini-episodes in addition to the main episode each month.

These new mini-episodes will be called Open and Shut Episodes, and will have a different format than the regular episodes. My regular show is a deep dive into the guest author, and usually runs almost an hour.  Conversely, Open & Shut episodes will feature a brief discussion with the featured author, followed by another short discussion about his/her new or recent release. The entire episode will run in the 10-15 minute range, perfect for quick consumpiton. The idea is to give listeners a quick idea about an author and his/her work.

Open & Shut episodes of Wrong Place, Write Crime will start coming out in November, and by January 2019, they will be a weekly feature (with the exception of the week of the main show release, as well as some holidays, etc.).

* Speaking of Wrong Place, Write Crime, the podcast is now available on Google Play and Spotify, in addition to its previous platforms of Soundcloud, Stitcher, and iTunes.

*That’s a cool thing, because the November guest will be author Christopher Moore, who wrote the acclaimed Lamb and more recently, Noir. That episode will drop on November 15!

* Down and Out Books has set a June 10, 2019 release date for my novel, Charlie-316. It should be available for pre-order by Thanksgiving. This is the second book I’ve written with Colin Conway. It is set in the aftermath of an officer-involved police shooting, and the various responses by the officer, the department, the city, and the public. It’s a timely topic, and one we explore, but we also turn the premise on its ear a bit. More to come when it goes live for pre-order, and you get to see the awesome cover by JT Lindroos!

* Down and Out Books will also be re-issuing my first novel with Colin Conway, Some Degree of Murder. This was the first time I ever collaborated with another author, and the first time I used a dual, first peron narrative structure. It worked well enough that I used it with three other others for a total of eight books.

Some Degree of Murder is set in my River City universe in 2005, and follows a police detective and a bereaved father (who also happens to be a mob enforcer) as they both try to solve the murder of a fourteen-year-old girl, each using his own methods to find the killer.

* October saw the Down and Out Books re-release of Closing the Circle, the third book in the Ania series. In this novel, both John Pearse (an insurance investigator) and Andros Krol (an enforcer for the Polish mob in Chicago) pursue Ania and the diamonds she stole in Blood on Blood. The trail takes them from Chicago to Vegas to San Francisco and finally to wine country.

Closing the Circle was originally the final book in the series, but when Jim Wilsky and I sold the series to Down and Out Books, we also agreed to a fourth book. This would become Harbinger, the prequel to the existing trilogy, and an origin story for Ania. Harbinger will be out December 10, 2018.

* Down and Out Books confirmed that they will re-issue my independently published novel, At Their Own Game during 2019. The exact timing will be predicated on when they release a new novel, In the Cut.

In the Cut is set against the backdrop of an outlaw motorcycle gang, as a prospect named Boone works to win the respect of the members and earn his patch. What is Boone willing to do for the club to get his patch? What will they ask of him? The answers to those questions are only a part of the story.

In the Cut takes place in the same universe as At Their Own Game, and includes a few minor crossover characters. Depending on the eventual release date for In the Cut (likely late 2019), the release for At Their Own Game will drop a few months prior, and will contain a preview chapter of In the Cut.

For now, At Their Own Game will remain available, but at some point (probably sooner rather than later), I will be de-publishing it well in advance of the Down and Out Books re-issue. The audio version, narrated by Peter Husman, however, will remain available throughout.

* Lastly, if you’re behind on Zafiro news, Black Car Business, Volume Two came out September 24. “Details in Black” is my story in that. Also, my fifth River City novel, The Menace of the Years, came out on September 18. The serial novella anthology series, A Grifter’s Song, that I created and will contribute to and edit, was announced. Episode one will be out January 7, 2019. Episodes two through six will follow monthly, and there will be a second “season” starting in January 2020.

That’s about it…yeah, not busy at all!
