In “Cassie,” Stefan Kopriva is briefly reunited with a woman he longed for in Waist Deep. Cassie needs a favor from him, and Stef does his best to carry it out.
“Good Shepherd” finds the sanctimonious Lieutenant Alan Hart getting the tables turned on him, as he engages in an illicit affair that compromises his job.
In “Gently Used,” Connor O’Sullivan has an affair with a badge bunny, but realizes too late that she is much more than that. This story takes place between the events of Beneath a Weeping Sky and And Every Man Has to Die, and shows us a side of Sully that doesn’t come out much in the novels.
Author’s Note: “Good Shepherd” was a finalist for a Derringer award in 2005. “Cassie” was deemed one of the decade’s best to appear in Yellow Mama.
