First Line — Closing the Circle

She’s so beautiful, Wendy thought. The bitch.

So goes the first line of the third Ania book, Closing the Circle. This is Wendy’s only POV chapter, though she has a continued role throughout the novel.

She is, of course, talking about Ania. Our little grifter has ended up in wine country in northern California, and she is being pursued by two new protagonists. In our same dual, first-person narrative, Jim Wilsky and I each wrote one of the two characters. I wrote John Pearse, a loss recovery agent, and Jim wrote Andros Krol, muscle for the Polish mob (who also appeared in a minor role in Blood on Blood).

As an opener, this one is okay. Although, if you know the series, it is better. I’m going to say a solid C+.

You?

This book marked the end of the Ania trilogy (though we did write a prequel), and it was a fun journey with some unexpected twists along the way.

And boy, did Zach McCain continue to rock the covers, or what?
