I’ll take it.
So I woke up this morning and decided to do something I haven’t done in quite a while a few days: see where I stood on Amazon Author Rankings with regard to police procedurals. My River City series definitely falls into that category, and so does Some Degree of Murder (although it is probably the secondary category; hard boiled being the primary). I clicked my way to the page and lo, and behold….I am #2.
The duece.
The silver medal.
Or, if you’re an overachiever, the first loser.
But if you take a look at the list, or at the picture accompanying this post, you’ll see who is #1. Michael Connelly.
Yeah, Michael freakin’ Connelly.

That’s like finishing on the horror list to Stephen King, Dean Koontz and Peter Straub, y’know?
So you know what? I’ll take that #2, and be glad for it. Connelly has some tremendous books, and a lot of them. I just finished an earlier Bosch novel, The Black Ice, and it was powerful. You should give it a read if you haven’t yet. His Mickey Haller books are also great, and he has a couple about a journalist that are a nice diversion from the standard detective novel, too, but still a procedural (a journalist procedural?).
But when you finish with Connelly, guess who’s next on your TBR list? Well, for at least an hour on 11/2/2012, me.
Second ain’t so bad.
