His descriptions of police patrol and detective activities are spot on. For me, that has always been the first test of any police procedural or legal thriller. The author has to at least come close to getting it right. Zafiro got it right. His characters ring true. They are not the almost caricature characters who populated Wambaugh’s later fiction.
